Obituary

Henrick "Hank" Hayes, 74, of Monroe, passed away on August 10, 2022. He was born August 10, 1948, to the late Eaul and Else Hayes. At 9 years old, Hank immigrated from Germany to America with his parents and brother, Doug. They settled in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, where Hank's youngest brother, Stephen, was born. "Hank the Tank" played football in high school, and in 1967 his team won the State Championship, the only state title Hopkinsville has ever won. In addition to his schoolwork, Hank worked several part-time jobs to help support his family. After high school, Hank joined the US Army to serve his adopted country. Hank volunteered for service in Vietnam, where he was awarded a Bronze Star with V device and two Purple Hearts. After serving in Vietnam, Hank continued his career in the Army by serving as a member of the Old Guard, and proudly standing in the Honor Guard for Senator Robert Kennedy's funeral. Hank married his first wife, Carol, and they had three children, Scott, Colleen, and Melissa. They settled in New Jersey where Hank enjoyed many hobbies including fishing, golfing, wood working, reading, and antique collecting. He also loved animals and the outdoors. Hank was a devoted father, who worked tirelessly to provide for his family. Eventually, after 25 years of dedicated service, Hank retired from the military after attaining the rank of Captain. He was a true patriot who loved his country. In his later years, Hank married his second wife, Sandy. They moved to North Carolina, where they lived happily until his passing on August 10th of this year, Hanks 74th Birthday. In addition to his military and family achievements, Hank earned an associate degree in Criminal Justice and was a proud member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. Hank is survived by his wife, Sandra Hayes; children, Scott Hayes (Lisa), Colleen Dougher (James), and Melissa Williamson (Clint); grandchildren, Sean Olofson, Meleea Olofson, Mikhala Dougher, Connor Hayes, Emily Dougher, Aiden Williamson, Caydence Williamson, and Savannah Dougher; stepsons, Richard Martin (Anna) and Robert Walker (Rita); 7 step-grandchildren and 7 step-great-grandchildren; and his brothers, Douglas Hayes and Stephen Hayes.
