On Friday, February 23rd, his family and the community were shocked when Gary Pennington of Waxhaw passed away. He left many struggling to imagine this world without the incredible man who gave so much to every soul he came in contact with through the years. A profound and moving anchor of love and guidance while being a shining example of work ethic honesty and integrity.

Countless tears have been shed by so many of us as the struggle to deal with his passing overwhelms but we understand those tears were earned. Earned by Gary's powerful legacy of love woven through the years by a heart that gave beyond measure to so many and with a humble, selfless, and tireless spirit.

Gary was born in High Point NC but spent most of his life in Union County NC and his adult life in Waxhaw after purchasing his first home at only 19 years of age.

Gary was a brilliant man. He was self-employed for more than 30 years as owner of Pennington's Home Improvements. Those lucky enough to get to know him quickly understood that they were dealing with a man who was a rare and refreshing blend of honesty, integrity, skill, and an unmatched work ethic.

He was a true visionary with the amazing ability to see possibilities and solutions where many of us saw only obstacles and insurmountable hurdles. Many of us came to know that we needed to lean in and listen carefully when this humble expert on so many things said, "I'm not trying to tell you what to do, but if it was mine..." Because we knew the advice to follow would be brilliant and probably better than what we had in mind or could have hoped to achieve. Gary was the epitome of success as a self-made man and entrepreneur who was relentless in his pursuit of excellence for others and self-reliance for himself and his family. He lived the very essence of the American dream and was a true patriot in every sense of the word. He set a shining example for those of us left to carry on.

He spent his entire adult life with his lovely bride Sylvia and together they built a home whose foundation was unwavering commitment and unconditional love. Sylvia is and was the love of his life and that is a rare and amazing cornerstone of his legacy as well.

He was an incredible Father, Grandfather, Uncle, and friend.

He is survived by his wife Sylvia of the home. His Daughter Emily Brown and her Husband Tyler Brown. His Granddaughter Chloie Brown. His Brother Loyd Pennington and Wife Jody Pennington. Brother Lennie Pennington and Sister Karen Keziah.

Gary may be gone from our presence but we will carry the treasure trove of memories and gifts he has given us in our hearts for all of the days we each walk this earth. We love you, Gary Dean Pennington.
