Gary Hargett and the love of his life, the late Libby Collins Hargett, were married for over 53 years at the time of her death in June 2015 . Gary was a devoted husband, and his love for Libby was evident even as he anticipated seeing her again in his last days. When the two celebrated their 50th anniversary, Gary believed that accomplishment was better than any racing win he had ever achieved.
Those that knew Gary, even if only for a short time, understood that his big passion was racing. He had the honor and privilege of working with many accomplished racers during his 60+ year career in the motorsport industry where he wore many hats. Gary began his career by selling tires and parts at the racetrack and eventually expanded his knowledge to cover every aspect of the sport, from building cars to working as a crew chief.
Gary is survived by his older brother Max Hargett, nephew Mitch (Pat) Hargett, niece Robin Hargett, and many great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by the "children of his heart" Chad Mullis, Tami Mills, and Greg and Gina Hargett.
We would like to thank Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region for their kindness during the time they cared for Gary. We are grateful for all the special care and love shown in his last days.
Gary touched many people throughout his lifetime. We would like to thank all who visited and offered many kind deeds during the recent months.
"Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did it for Me." Matthew 25:40 CSB
