Mr. Elbert Helms Smith, 83, was called home by his heavenly Father on
January 19th, 2022 at his home, surrounded by his family. Elbert was
the husband to his beloved wife Iris D. Smith who preceded him in
death.
Elbert was born in Unionville, Union County, North Carolina on
October 2nd, 1938, to the late Shelly and Elizabeth Smith. Elbert
served in the United States Army from 1957-1965, and graduated
from Wingate University with an associate degree in chemistry. Elbert
retired from Teledyne Allvac where he worked 40 plus years.
Elbert was a devoted member of Bible Baptist Tabernacle Church in
Monroe, NC, for over 40 years. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and
enjoyed singing in his church choir. Elbert will be remembered for his
hard work, being a family man, his ethics, and a man of few words.
Elbert Smith is survived by his two sisters, Sheila (Charles), Lynn
(Danny), and brother Eddie (Trish), children, preceded in death by son
Thomas Lee Smith (Bonnie), daughter Tina Martin (John), preceded in
death by son Anthony "Tony" Smith, son Jeffrey T. Smith (Ginger),
and son Jonathan T. Smith (Jennifer). Grandchildren Jessica Martin,
Hanna Martin, Anthony Smith (Ashley), Tyler Smith (Courtney),
Zacary Smith, Zailey Smith, Abigail Smith, Rachel Smith, and Anna
Smith. Great Grandchildren Bryson Martin, Gannon Smith, Haven
Smith, Liam Smith and Abel Smith.
Elbert will lie in state for viewing at Holland Funeral Home, Monroe NC
on Friday, January 21, 2022, from 2pm until 5:00 PM and Saturday from 9am until 12pm. The family
will be having a private celebration of his life. He will be laid to rest at Bible Baptist Tabernacle Cemetery.
