Mr. Edward "Boyd" Knight, 89, of Wingate, passed away on December 18, 2023. He was born to the late Clyde and Mary Knight in Union County on March 31, 1934.

Boyd leaves behind his loving wife of 71 years, Iva Lee Knight; his children, Angela Aldridge (Billy), Vickie Schneider (Kenny),  Danny Knight (Wanda), Charles Knight (Connie); his sisters, Doris "Dot" Austin, Myra Tomberlin, and Martha Thomas; his sister-in-law, Linda Knight; 10 grandchildren and their spouses and 11 great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in passing by his sisters, Elizabeth "Lib" (Everett) Mills, and Madry (Roy) Haney; brother, Donophan "Don" Knight; and his brothers-in-laws, Clemon Tomberlin, Bill Thomas, Melburn Austin, and Johnny Jenkins.

Boyd dedicated his life to not only his family but to his community. He was the inaugural fire chief at Allen's Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department and a dedicated school bus driver for UCPS. In his earlier days, Boyd, a farmer, and truck driver approached life with a feisty spirit and an ingenious knack for rigging anything together. Through retirement, he could often be found circling a table with his buddies at their favorite hangout spot, sharing morning coffee and swapping stories. But Boyd's heart belonged to more than just good company. He and his wife shared a love for the river, where they'd spend time together and enjoy a little catfishing. Boyd leaves behind a close-knit family who still gathers every Sunday, a testament to the enduring strength of the ties he built throughout his life.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at Holland Funeral Service, 806 Circle Drive, Monroe, NC 28112. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. Mr. Knight will be laid to rest at the Centerview Baptist Church Cemetery immediately following the service.
