Obituary

Edsel Dwight Nash of Monroe passed away in his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday afternoon, July 21. He was 89 years old and is survived by his loving faithful wife of 68 years, Ellie Nash. Edsel was born in Union County to Brice and Eltis Nash on April 14, 1932. He had four younger siblings: Willie Johnson Forester, James Lewis (Buck), Billy Parks and Jimmy Douglas (deceased). Edsel was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and son. Edsel graduated from Wingate High School in 1951 where he met his future wife, Ellie Haigler. They were married in 1952 and shortly thereafter, Edsel entered the US Army where he served from 1953 to 1956 as a tank commander at the Panama Canal during the Korean War. After his service he returned to Charlotte where he worked as a tool and die maker. He and Ellie then moved to Monroe in 1967 and shortly thereafter established Triple "E" Swine Farm and P&N Concrete Products which they operated until Edsel had a severe heart attack. This led to his retirement in 1980 during which he enjoyed many hobbies including: wood working, cabinet making, gardening, and restoring antique cars. His great joy was food and cooking and his favorite pastime was preparing special meals and hosting holiday events and parties for his beloved family and their friends. Edsel was a member of Faulk's Baptist Church for over 50 years. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Ellie and two of his three children, six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. The children are: Edsel Dwight Nash Jr. (deceased) & wife Angie, Sonia Nash George (Myron), Leslie Jill Creager (Pete) and grandchildren Brandy Nash Maher (Cary), Joshua Brice Nash (Tabitha), Tiffany Mullis Biggers (Nathan), Brittney Renee Graham (Jonathan), Cody Grant Mullis (Savannah), and Preston Scott Emery. Their great grandchildren are: Savannah and Kierra McCarthy and Lorelei and Quinn Maher; Emma and Izik Taylor; Dylan, Aisleigh and Everly Biggers; Theodore, Finley and Eden Graham; and Levi Mullis. The family will receive friends at Faulk's Baptist Church on Sunday, July 25 from 2:00-3:00 followed by a service to celebrate Edsel's life at 3:00 in the church sanctuary. Pastor David Richardson will officiate the service. Holland Funeral Service & Crematory is serving the family.
