Mr. Edmond Yates Pope, 91, passed away on Monday, November 25, 2024 at his home in Marshville. He was born on June 9, 1933 to the late Joseph Ed Pope and Eula Bryant Pope. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Ramelle Baucom.
Visitation will be held Friday, November 29 at 11:00 am at Philadelphia Baptist Church with a graveside service following at 12:30 pm in the church cemetery.
Yates is survived by his wife of 71 years, Shirley Stegall Pope, and daughter, Dawn Pope Woodward (Melvin). He is also survived by 4 grandchildren: Melissa Guffey Potisek (Nick), Miranda Guffey Lawrence (Brandon), Daniel Yates Guffey (Deana), and Darren Joseph Guffey (Hannah) along with 12 great grandchildren Kaleigh Penland, Finn Potisek, Makenna Lawrence, Piper Potisek, Bowen Lawrence, Declan Potisek, August Guffey, Lennox Guffey, Tucker Guffey, Edison Guffey, Callum Potisek and Lillian Guffey.
Yates (Bo) married his wife, Shirley, February 1953 then entered the U.S. Army where he served in Germany preparing for the Korean War. He returned home and worked as a driver for White Poultry then as a poultry farmer until retirement.
He spent much time tending his many gardens always tinkering around the farm fixing his equipment or finding a chore to be done. After retiring, he made a daily drive to Bojangles where he and Shirley had breakfast with their friends. He and Shirley raised his daughter Dawn on White Store Road, and he cherished time spent with his four grandchildren and many great grandchildren there. Home was his favorite place and not much took him from it.
