Obituary

Dwayne Eric Crook went home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 2nd, 2025, just three days shy of his 56th birthday. He was surrounded by his family and close friends. Dwayne was known to many as a Husband, Dad, Friend, "Sprite", but his favorite name of all was Poppy.

Born on July 5th, 1969, Dwayne lived a life marked by hard work and deep love for his family and friends. Dwayne leaves behind his beloved wife of 31 years, Carrie; two daughters, Amber (Justin) and Carman; grandsons, Waylon and Bentley; brother Brian (Kari) and sister Janice; and many nieces and nephews – Krissie (Brandon), Riley, Connor, Jessica (David), Christopher (Emily), Tony, Billy, and David (Stephanie). He also leaves behind his loyal dog and best friend, Charlie, along with countless beloved friends and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Margie; his baby brother Eddie; and his in-laws, Ted and Jean ("Maw").

From the age of 16, Dwayne worked as a plumber alongside his father. After his father's passing in 1989, he took over the family business. Dwayne was in the process of passing down the business to Brian at the time of his death. He worked incredibly hard for his family and customers during his years of service. His customers were not just clients, they were friends and family he was glad to serve with his time and effort. Dwayne is remembered as a generous giver – of his time, talents, and love.

Dwayne a.k.a "The Mayor of Juds" could be found most weekday mornings at Juds with a cup of coffee in his hand, surrounded by friends, and proudly bragging on his wife, daughters, and grandsons. His laughter and stories were staples of the establishment, and his absence will be deeply felt.

Dwayne was raised in church and has a testimony of giving his life to Christ at a young age. More than anything, he would want those reading this to know that he loved you and God loves you immensely more.

As a family, we would like to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers, calls, texts, and drop ins we had during the last week of Dwayne's life that have continued with his passing.

If you would like to pay respects to the family, visitation will be held from 5:00pm until 7:00pm on Monday, July 7, 2025 at Bright Spot Baptist Church, 1407 Lockhart St Monroe, NC 28112. The funeral service will be help at 11:00am on Tuesday July 8, 2025 at Bright Spot Baptist Church, 1407 Lockhart St Monroe, NC 28112. The burial will be private.

Here is to remembering a friend, father, husband, poppy, or whatever it is you knew him by. May his legacy live on in our love for one another, laughter we share at memories, strength we give to one another in the hard times, and the legacy he leaves behind in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
