Obituary

Mr. Dennis James Cox 57, of Indian Trail, passed away from a heart attack Friday, April 1st, 2022. He was preceded in death by his mother Virginia Ann Cox, his brother, Robert Earl Cox, and his uncle, Bob Threatt. His surviving family is his father, Earl (Pops) Cox, his wife, Angela Gail Cox, his son, John Cox, stepsons Paul Driggers, Jason and Justin Overcash, daughter in law Samantha and grandson Nathan. He also has cousins, Jimmy Taylor and wife Debbie, and cousin Tammy McGraw and family, his nephew Derek Cox, as well as his wife's brothers and sisters. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 6, 2022 from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM at Holland Funeral Service. A graveside service will follow on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte. Dennis worked for Action Garbage for 15 years with his best buddy Jerry O'Neal. And for 20 years he worked for Andolina Landscaping for Mario Andolina, who has been like a brother to him. He loved being outdoors. If he wasn't tinkering in his shop you could find him with his hands in the dirt. Dennis had a green thumb like no other. He could nurture even the sickliest plant into a thriving shrub or flower. He also loved to fish and was a pro on the grill. And he never met a stranger. He would strike up a conversation anywhere and with whoever was around. Their good friend Jan Davis had a pontoon boat that needed some work on it. Dennis told her she needed to get it working so he could captain it for her. She told him, " when donkeys fly!" Every time they spoke after that he would tell her, "I've seen those flying donkeys!" Dennis loved his family. He and his son John had a close relationship and could usually be found together. Dennis and Gail had a wonderful last 6 months together. After retiring, they bought a little house out on Lake Tillery. He loved taking Gail out on moonlight rides in the golf cart. They would finish dinner and he'd say," you wanna take a ride?" He wouldn't even finish the sentence and she would be jumping up to get her shoes on. The love that Dennis and Gail shared was so special. He loved to tease her. While getting settled into the lakehouse, they would be trying to set things up. From the phone signal to putting a table together, he'd be poking fun or bickering. And once they got it together he would just laugh and move on to the next project. Dennis, known fondly as Dudeman or Moin by his friends and family, was truly one of a kind. He will be missed by all who knew him. We would like to thank all the friends and family for the support and prayers during this trying time. Gail's sister Lisa Johnson has been so supportive through this. She never left Gail's side while she was at the hospital. And Gail's brother and brother in law, Tim Ward and Jeffery Sligh have been absolutely wonderful during the funeral process. Gail is truly so thankful to have so many wonderful people showing their support and paying their respects to Dennis. And a special thank you to Holland funeral service for the funeral arrangements and taking such good care of the family and Dennis. Holland Funeral Service is serving the Cox Family.
