Obituary

On Sunday, March 20, 2022, Mr. Cody Duke Dermid, 33, was called home to be with his Heavenly Father, surrounded by his family. He valiantly fought a long, hard battle in which he demonstrated tremendous courage, and faith in God. The funeral service will be at 2:30pm on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at Next Level Church located at 4317 Stevens Mill Rd, Stallings, NC 28104. Following the service, Cody's body will be laid to rest at Price Cemetery in Indian Trail. A visitation will be held that evening at 7:00 at the home of Kevin and Kirsten Kennedy at 604 Goose Creek Drive, Indian Trail, NC 28079. Cody was born on August 5, 1988, and grew up in Union County. He was a 2006 graduate of Piedmont High School. He worked briefly in the IT field before finding his true calling of being an entrepreneur. He and his wife, Katelynn, went on to run multiple businesses over the course of many years which allowed them the time and freedom to experience life in a way that most are not able to. Cody loved to travel, having been to almost all 50 states. He enjoyed taking trips to Edisto Island and spending time relaxing with family and friends. When he was not traveling, you could find him at home, binge-watching "The Office" for the thousandth time and just enjoying life with his wife and their his son. He was also quite the jokester, always scheming and looking for the perfect opportunity to pull a prank. But more than that, Cody was a good Christian man and a devoted husband and father. Since his youth, he was very involved in the student ministry at church, and it was, without a doubt, his passion and his calling while on this earth. Whether it was leading worship in church, singing, playing various instruments, or simply partaking in a skit, the joy of the Lord shone through him and made an impact on so many lives, both young and old. Some may say that Cody's life was cut short at such a young age, but really, he was just able to fulfill God's purpose in a shorter amount of time than most. He will be dearly missed by many, but the impact he had on so many lives will live on for years to come. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Katelynn Dermid and their son, Lewis Dermid; his parents, Eddie and Cindy Dermid; his brother and sister-in-law, Carter and Laura Dermid; his sister and brother-in-law, Amanda and Nathan Moak; his niece and nephews, Bryson, Ayla, Eli, Judah, and Silas Dermid; his grandparents, Victor and Margaret Dermid; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Kevin and Kirsten Kennedy; his sister-in-law, Karleigh Sizemore and husband Zach; his brother-in-law, Konner Kennedy and wife Gabi; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ralph and Jean Hasty. In lieu of flowers, Cody and his family would prefer a donation to Generation Students, where Cody was a founding member and played a major role. Donations can be made online at www.GenerationStudents.org.
