Buddy Howell Dyer, 85, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2021. He was born February 8, 1935 in Des Moines, Iowa. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Holland Funeral Service on January 30, 2021 at 1:00pm, 806 Circle Drive, Monroe, NC 28112. Buddy is survived by his children, Deb Rushing (Barry Rushing), Dan Dyer, and Cindy Grigston (Ronnie Grigston); grandchildren, Lori Cochran (Kevin Cochran), Jeani Brinson (Matthew Brinson), Amanda Dyer, Danielle Dyer, Jordan Grigston (Stephanie Grigston), Dalton Grigston (Tiffany Grigston), Ryan Grigston, Meghan Grigston; and great-grandchildren, Aiden & Lily Cochran, Emma & Ayla Brinson, Eden & Ethan Dyer, Harmonie Tucker. Buddy was an honorable marine for three years from 1953 until 1956 where he served during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged from the Marine Corps, he returned to the states and began working for the Florida Highway maintenance and played an integral part in the paving of Hwy. 1 from Northeastern United States all the way down to the Florida Keys. After moving to Charlotte, NC, he drove for Greyhound Bus Line and retired after several years. Buddy later worked with Love Construction as a heavy machinery operator. His last employment was with the local ABC store in Monroe, NC which he and his friends fondly referred to as the "Candy Store." Outside of Buddy's successful working life, he also had a small farm where he enjoyed breeding his miniature horses and mules. Buddy loved his land and would often take walks down to the creek and through the woods surrounding his home. His other hobbies included gun shows, antiquing, and going to estate sales. Buddy lived a long and fulfilling life and will be missed by many.
