IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mr. Barry Lynn
Rushing
November 15, 1956 – September 8, 2024
Barry Lynn Rushing passed away on September 8, 2024, at the age of 67 surrounded by his loving family.
Born November 15, 1956, Barry was a proud lifelong resident of Indian Trail, North Carolina area. He and Deb were married 11/21/1976 and raised their daughters in the home where Deb still resides. The home where family would gather to celebrate holidays and special occasions and where grandchildren would come to spend the weekend with their loving grandparents.
Barry worked at Delmar/Herff Jones Printing Company on a printing press for more than thirty years. He put in long hours and slept short nights before he retired.
In his youth Barry loved fast cars, and he worked to repair and restore several vehicles, the last one being his 1965 Ford Mustang which is still in the family. He loved bowling, playing computer video games, and watching NASCAR or professional football. Rarely was he without a Pepsi in his hand, and he was particularly fond of Vienna sausages and BBQ.
Although he was mostly quiet, contemplative and unassuming, he had a deep booming voice when he spoke. Quick-witted, often with a twinkle in his eye, he could find a way to get laughs from those around him. Rarely one to ask for help, he was always there to lend a hand, whether you asked for it or not. He was truly selfless and nothing mattered more to him than those he loved. If you were one of those people, although he may not have always had the words, you knew.
His true joy was anything that involved his grandchildren. Putt-putt was a past-time he enjoyed since his girls were children, and he carried that tradition on with his grandchildren. He found time to travel to soccer and flag football games, recitals, and birthdays. He devoted hours to sitting and listening to them, joking with them, and laughing with them. Whether it be playing with trains, working on puzzles, building Lego, playing board games, or working on various other arts and crafts; if they were around, he was by their side. Even with a chorus of television and children playing, often he would slip into the inevitable nap on the sofa. Ultimately, it was in a room with many of the people he loved most that he found his final peace.
He is preceded in death by his parents Ben and Catherine Rushing.
Barry is survived by his wife, Debra Dyer Rushing; daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Kevin Cochran; daughter and son-in-law, Jeani and Matthew Brinson; grandchildren, Emma Brinson, Aiden Cochran, Ayla Brinson, and Lily Cochran; brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Rebecca Rushing; sister and brother-in-law, Melissa and Russell Morrison; nieces, nephews, in-laws, and loved ones.
Barry will be forever remembered and loved.
