Marilyn Purser, 85 of Monroe, NC passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 27th 2026. She was born in Dillion County, SC, August 29, 1940. Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband Billy Martin Purser, son Roger Martin Purser (Marty), mother and stepfather, Grady and Agnes Jackson Helms, sister, Ann Helms and brother, Randy Helms.
She is survived by her daughter Debbie Thomas (Cecil) of Monroe, Grandchildren, Aaron Tarlton (Cara) of Marshville, Melissa McDonald of Monroe , Trent Purser (Bailee), Connor Purser (Kailey) and Maddox Purser, all of Monroe. Great grandchildren, Ethan McDonald, Gabi McDonald, Evan Tarlton and Cayson Tarlton. Brothers, Theron Helms (Jean) of Zebulon and Jack Helms (Judy) of New London, Sister, Dawn Strawn (Raymond) of Peachland, NC; daughter-in-law, Beth Purser Griffin; step-grandchildren, Lindsay Gildea (Pat) of Charlotte, NC, Kristen McRorie of Huntersville, NC, and Matt Thomas of Charlotte, NC; step-great grandchildren, John Patrick Gildea, Addison Gildea, Caroline Gildea, and Hudson McRorie; along with many other cherished family and friends.
Marilyns greatest joy was spending time with her family of which she was so proud. She was a widow for nearly 40 years and was very independent up until her passing. She took such pride in her cats which she made sure were fed twice a day. Her day was planned around it. She spent her time watching Gunsmoke, Perry Mason and doing Find A Word, which she enjoyed.
A graveside service will be held at Antioch Baptist Church, Saturday, February 7th at 3 pm. The family invites you to join them for a reception/visitation with refreshments in the fellowship hall following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations can be made to Antioch Baptist Church or Humane Society of Union County.
