Dateline: Charlotte, NC Margaret Fields Benson, 85, passed away October 5, 2016. Margaret was born on March 27, 1931 in Columbus County, NC to the late Bill and Alberta Covington Fields. A graduate of UNC Charlotte she earned two master degrees in Psychology and English. She worked and retired from Eastern Airlines. �She was a current member of Union Baptist Church of Shelby, and was previously at St. Giles Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Charlotte. She was quick to help anyone that needed it. Her life passion was her family, church, and gardening. A service to celebrate Ms. Benson will be held�Tuesday October 11, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church. Pastor Mike Shumate will be officiating. A visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn East Cemetery. Margaret is survived by her sons Zachary Keith Benson of Charlotte, Kent Benson (Susie) of Cookville Tn., Jason Barr (Jennifer) of Charlotte, daughters; Roxanne Smith of Charlotte, Angela Roberts of Wilmington, sister; Joan Faires of Ritchfield, NC, 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and her special friends Ann Thomas of Lawndale, NC, and Kathy & Mike Grigg of Shelby, NC. In addition to her parents Margaret was preceded in death by her brother Ross Fields, sister; Geraldine Saunders, and grandson Scott Purser.
