Kathryn Doane Mayhew, 86, passed away July 30, 2019. Mrs. Mayhew was born in Richmond Virginia on September 12, 1932. Mrs. Mayhew was an active member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Monroe North Carolina. She was very active in community sports for the local high schools particularly Monroe High School. She enjoyed all sports but her favorite was football. She spent a great deal of her life coaching youth sports, having a passion for girls' softball. She was a devoted wife and mother to nine children, as well as her grandchildren. Kathryn also loved her Sunday school class and spent many Sundays after church dining out with women from the class. Travel was also one of her loves. She spent many happy days on cruises with family members. She is eternally grateful for all the love and support offered by family and friends. She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed. A visitation will be held Sunday, August 4, from 12:30 PM to 1:45 PM at Shiloh Baptist Church. A service will follow at 2:00 PM. Survived by her nine children, Douglas Wayne Mayhew (Gayle), Robert Lee Mayhew (Hilda), Vickie Mayhew Rogers (Rick), Karen Mayhew Waters (Roger), George Alan Mayhew (Mariibeth), Richard Cameron Mayhew, Wanda Mayhew Sledge (Greg), Harold Keith Mayhew (Pam), Ann Mayhew Mesa (Jorge), 19 Grandchildren, 18 Great Grandchildren She was preceded in death by husband Robert Lee Mayhew, three brothers, William Doane, Grover Doane, and Charles Doane. In lieu of flowers, Kathryn asked that donations to Hospice of Union County, 700 West Roosevelt Boulevard, Monroe N.C. 28110 or Shiloh Baptist Church, 2301 Rocky River Road North, Monroe N.C. 28110.
