Juel Lee Rogers Sherwood, 90, of Wingate, NC, went to Heaven on January 8, 2024. Born in Salisbury, NC on December 22, 1933, Juel was the daughter of the late William David Rogers and Pauline Bost Rogers. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Betty Sue Rogers Edwards.

After growing up in Greensboro, NC, Juel attended Appalachian State University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in music. A lifelong pianist and alto, she sang in the Wingate Baptist Church choir for many years and played handbells there as well. Juel served on several church committees, including music and library.

Juel moved to Wingate in the early 1960s and taught briefly in the Union County Public Schools before working at home raising three children. In the 1980s, Juel worked for several years in the Belk customer service department before ending her career as the library assistant at Forest Hills High School for nearly a decade.

In retirement, Juel enjoyed volunteering at the Habitat for Humanity store and serving as a driver for Meals on Wheels. In her later years, she loved reading, going to the beauty salon, taking walks and working puzzles.

Juel is survived by her three children, David of Wingate, NC, Brian of Monroe, NC and Nancy of Falls Church, VA.

The Sherwood family would like to thank the many wonderful home health care workers and friends who allowed Juel to thrive at home during the last 10 years of her life.

A Celebration of Life service will be held in the spring at a date to be determined.
