Juanita Elliott Haigler
October 11, 1940 – October 5, 2026
Juanita (Nita) Haigler passed away peacefully on October 5, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.
Nita was married to her beloved husband, Joe Haigler, for 46 years—a testament to enduring love, patience, and partnership. Nita and Joe were dedicated members of the First Baptist Church of Cornelius; she deeply loved her church and her church family.
For 26 years, Nita owned and operated the Mother’s Morning Out school in Cornelius. Together with her teachers, she created a warm, family atmosphere. She loved to talk about her school and received so much joy from the children and their families over the years.
Nita took great pride in her home, which was always immaculate with everything in its place. Time spent with Nita was never dull; it was filled with stories of days gone by and conversations that were always a joy. She was a truly unique person of whom her family would lovingly say, "That's Nita."
Nita was the daughter of the late Grover Sidney Elliott and Alma Beck Elliott. She was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Elliott Lloyd.
She is survived by her loving husband, Joe, and her brother, Jerry Elliott of New Bern, NC. She is cherished and remembered by her niece and nephews, as well as her steadfast friend and devoted caregiver, Katie Fordham, whose kindness and constant help were a true blessing to the family.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the hospice team at VIA Health Partners.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 12, at 12:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Cornelius (21007 Catawba Ave, Cornelius, NC 28031). The service will be officiated by Pastor David Johnson, assisted by Minister Johnathan Allen, with remarks shared by her dear brother-in-law, Wayne Haigler, as well as other family and friends. Family and close friends will be received one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The First Baptist Church of Cornelius in honor of Nita.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Holland Funeral Service.
