� Jonathan Reid Hartis of Marshville, 32, passed away on Tuesday, June 14. Born to Tony and Suzanne Hartis on August 10, 1983, Jonathan was from birth an entertainer. The chubby-cheeked boy who startled waitresses by putting crab legs on his fingers grew into a quick-witted man with a remarkable sense of humor. All who were lucky enough to know Jonathan will remember his smile, his smirk, his love of a laugh. Jonathan's love of animals was on display whether he was gently escorting insects out of his house or nursing a kitten with a bottle. His compassion was not limited to animals, however, as he was quick to buy a meal, blanket or boots for the homeless or less fortunate. And he worked hard for his money as a roofer, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Earl Reid Hartis, and his maternal grandmother, Gretchen Brooks Stephens. He is survived by his parents, Tony and Suzanne Hartis; his brother, Daniel Hartis; his sister, Katie Ulrich; his girlfriend, Lisa Williams; his paternal grandmother, Patricia Hartis; and his maternal grandfather, David Stephens. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations in his memory be made to The Humane Society or the Union County Community Shelter.
