Obituary

On Tuesday, August 7, 2018, Johnnie (Butch) Carnes, passed away suddenly at the age of 53. Butch will be forever remembered and loved by his wife Carol and their children Teresa Simpson and Jacob Carnes. His two granddaughters, Tayla and Leigha Simpson will also remember and love their "Monkey". Butch is also survived by his brother Michael (Teresa) Carnes and Sister Cindy (Bill) Deese. Butch was the son of Johnnie Carnes, Sr. and Elizabeth (Lib) Carnes. Butch will also be remembered by his many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. Butch was born in Union County, N.C. on December 15, 1964. He attended Parkwood High School and University of North Carolina, Charlotte. He was a small engine mechanic and railroad conductor. He was known as the man that could fix anything. A visitation will be held on Monday, August 13, 2018 from 5:30pm – 7:00pm, immediately followed by memorial service, both at Blakely Funeral Home, 714 E Franklin St, Monroe NC 28112. Butch is remembered by his friends and family as being a gentle man who never met a stranger and was eager to help anyone in anyway. He spoiled his wife to ensure she always knew how much she was loved. He was always there for his children and thought the world of his precious granddaughters. His family was his world, and they knew it. Butch was a smart man, and knew vast information about a wide array of things. You might call him a know it all, and he would proudly agree.
