John Lester Hord, 77, passed away Monday, April 20, 2020. He was born January 31, 1943 to the late James O'Dell Hord and Lela Harrison Hord. John is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Anne Manikas, son, David Keith Hord, brothers, James C. Hord, Ernest C. Hord, grandchildren, Jonathan D. Wall (Whitney), Whitney Kirsten Wall, Hannah M. Hord, Lauren A. Manikas, Hayden A. Hord, Harrison D. Hord; great-grandchildren, Hayden Baucom, London H. Wall, many nieces, nephews and other special family members and friends. As an Army veteran, John was a man who loved to serve not only his country, but also his family. He was a gentle man who would give the shirt off his back to anyone. John loved his children and especially his grandchildren. He would take his grandchildren to baseball, soccer, softball, and football games; he was their biggest fan. John was a man who had many things to be proud of; he was a veteran, he had wonderful children and grandchildren, he was proud of his favorite sports teams (The Atlanta Braves and the Carolina Panthers), but John took great pride in his 22 years of sobriety. John will be forever be cherished in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
