James Carl Pope, 86, with his wife, Colon Williams Pope by his side, slipped away to his heavenly home on August 18, 2020 at Brookdale Monroe Square Assisted Living, under the care of Hospice & Palliative Care of Charlotte. He was born April 27, 1934 to the late Carl James Pope and Nellie Summerford Pope, of Marshville, NC. James is also preceded in death by his six siblings, Thomas, Edger, Vernon, and Edyth Pope, Jane Hilton and Allyne Webber.
James is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Colon Williams Pope; brother, Ray Pope of Winston Salem, NC; his children by his late wife June Arnett Pope, Michael Pope (April), and Jocelyn Elm; grandchildren, Lauren Hilton (Josh), Megan Pope, Shoman Goldman, Connor Elm, and Houston Isaac; step-children, Mark Williams (Kay), Mona Williams Scarbrough (Scott), Dusty Baucom Crooke (Perry); step-grandchildren, Kimberly Williams, Caroline & Logan Scarbrough, Daxton & Annistyn Crooke.
Jim was a long and faithful member and elder of Marshville Presbyterian Church, as well as his time with Rotary International. He served 2 years as an MP in the army, stationed in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Due to the Covid-19, a memorial service will be held at Marshville Presbyterian Church at a later date when all of Jim's family and friends can safely gather.
The family would like to thank, with love and appreciation, all the staff at Brookdale and Hospice for the loving care, support, and comfort you have given to Jim and Colon, and a special thanks to Dr. William Monroe with the VA in Charlotte for the many years of conversation and excellent care you gave Jim.
