James Martin Love “Martin”, age 93, of Monroe, NC, entered into Heaven on Thursday, May 07, 2026.
He was born in Lancaster, SC on October 21, 1932, son of the late Martin Luther and Cora Bell Tarlton Love.
Martin is survived by his wife of 52 years, Nellie Haigler Love; a daughter Lonni Love (Dale), step-sons; Leslie Pierce (Lisa), Victor Pierce, Klane Pierce, step-daughter Vanghi Trull (Kenny); granddaughters; Kira Rutherford, Athena Rutherford, Courtney Trull, Leslie Ann Williams (Nick), Haley Small (Alex) and Ashlyn Pierce; 10 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren, two nephews Tommy Langley and Billy Jowers; sister-in-law Raymelle Kiker (Gene), brothers-in-law David Reavis (Chila) and Bill Simpson.
As a late teen, Martin made the decision to enlist in the United States Navy, having retired with 21 years of service to our Country. He later worked for the North Carolina Department of Corrections, retiring as well.
Martin was a faithful member of Antioch Baptist Church where he served on many committees. Using his carpentry skills, he was a leader for the Baptist men, helping with many projects in the community. Along with his wife, Martin participated with North Carolina Baptist men responding to immediate needs following catastrophes including Hurricanes Floyd and Katrina and New York City in 9/11.
Martin was blessed with a full, happy life and had many wonderful friends and a loving family. He had many retirement years for hunting, camping and traveling with his wife to amazing places.
The family will receive friends from 2:00PM – 2:45 PM on Monday, May 11th, 2026, at Antioch Baptist Church located at 6223 Love Mill Road, Monroe, NC with a service to follow at 3:00PM. The service will conclude in the church cemetery following the rendering of the US Navy Military Honors.
