Obituary

Heidi Maria Holstein-Edwards Heidi Maria Holstein-Edwards, of Matthews, NC passed away peacefully from heart failure on Monday, November 15 at age 68. She was born on October 14, 1953, in Dover, Ohio to Christian August Frederick Holstein and Genevieve Helfter Holstein. Heidi is preceded in death by her parents, Christian and Genevieve Holstein and her sister Mary Evelyn Holstein. Heidi is survived by her husband of 42 years, David Kenneth Edwards of Matthews, NC, and their son, Alexander Christian Edwards of Stanley, NC, (her future daughter-in-law, Lauren Hamer of Stanley, NC), and her brother Christian Helfter Holstein of Winder, GA. Heidi's beautiful hazel blue eyes looked lovingly onto her husband, her son and her brother as they held her hands at her bedside during her final moments. Heidi was baptized Roman Catholic. As a child, her brother would often pull on her gorgeous blonde pigtails. Most of her professional life was involved in banking and finance. Later in life she was a notary public and an administrator for various schools and institutions until she retired from Vanderbilt University Medical Center in 2016. She then moved with her husband from TN to NC in 2018 to be closer to their son. Heidi was exceptionally intelligent, righteous, kind and loving. She dedicated herself to her husband, her son, her family and her friends. With over 500 cookbooks in her library, Heidi took great pride in being an excellent cook—no one ever turned down an invitation to one of her dinner parties. As the ultimate hostess, she paid close attention to every detail preparing all the food and table settings. She preferred shopping in a grocery store to any other store or mall. Her love of cooking and entertaining won her first place in the tailgating competition at the Hardscuffle Steeple Horse Races in Louisville. Throughout her life, she created hundreds of needlepoint pillows and framed masterpieces she often gifted to close friends. She designed and made several of her own outfits. When she didn't have a needle and thread in her hands, she had a hardcover book. Heidi enjoyed filling her home with weekly fresh-cut flower arrangements she made and being surrounded by all the beautiful things in her home she and her husband had collected over the years. She never left an art gallery without purchasing a piece to add to their personal art collection. Her love for dogs was such that rarely did she not have one by her side. Heidi had a great diversity of interests. As a teenager, she attended Woodstock. Her interest in music spanned from Frank Sinatra to James Taylor to country music. She attended the Indianapolis 500, the Kentucky Derby and the National Horse Show at Madison Square Garden in NYC with Andy Warhol in her box. On her wedding night Heidi, David, their attendants and several guests danced the night away at Studio 54. She soared in a helicopter over NYC on New Year's Eve with David and in a hot air balloon across the Kentucky countryside. Heidi loved the holidays, her favorite being Christmas where she displayed numerous snow globes throughout their home and a special Christmas tree adorned with over 100 crosses from around the world. She was a diverse wonderful talented, sophisticated lady with class and style. Above all, Heidi will be remembered respectfully for her love and generosity. She was a frequent volunteer for the Night OWLS program at the Highland Park United Methodist Church, as well as, a donor to numerous food banks. Heidi was a graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1974 and the Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in NYC. In 2004, she was a contributor to Dr. Fred Pescatore's book, The Hamptons Diet as she was credited for researching and creating every recipe. A memorial service will be given at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Golden Retriever Rescue Club of Charlotte. https://grrcc.com/donation/ or to a local food bank.
