Harold Douglas “Doug” Brandes Jr.
1947 – 2026
Harold Douglas “Doug” Brandes Jr., was born in Birmingham, Alabama to Harold Douglas Brandes Sr., and Frances Aileen Wall Brandes.
Doug was preceded in death by the love of his life, his “Darling,” Yvonne Knight Brandes; his parents, and his bonus grandson, Shane Jenkins.
He is survived and deeply missed by his sisters, Frances Brandes Neal (Don), and Mary Brandes; his nieces, Jennifer Burchardt (Hunter) and Kimberly Castings (Matt); great-nephews and great-nieces, Ryder Burchardt, Archer Burchardt, Chrissy Castings, and Jackson Castings, all of Georgia. His bonus children: Randy Knight, Greg Knight, Tony Knight, Amanda Jenkins (Boyce), and Kenny Pace (Melissa) all of North Carolina, and Will Weger (Annette) of Virginia; Bonus Grandchildren: Chris Knight(Ashley & boys), Josh Knight (Ashley & girls), Tim Knight(& children), Luther Jenkins (Maddie & Bonus child), Shane’s 4 children, Kaylan Knight(& child), Kacie McCarver(Roger & child).
Doug was a proud alumnus of Auburn University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Building Construction. He remained a devoted fan of Auburn athletics throughout his life.
He built a distinguished career as a professional engineer with Duke Power Company in Charlotte, North Carolina and served as a national president of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers.
In his faith life, Doug was most recently a member of First Baptist Church of Dahlonega. He also faithfully served as both a Deacon and Elder at Siler Presbyterian Church, Matthews North Carolina.
There will be two Celebrations of Life for Doug:
Saturday, May 30, 2026 - 2:00pm - at Siler Presbyterian Church in the Life Center on Weddington Road in Matthews, NC.
Saturday - June 13, 2026- 1:00pm - 3:00pm – at First Baptist Church of Dahlonega, Dahlonega, GA.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Doug’s memory to Eagle Ranch, Flowery Branch, GA (eagleranch.org) or to Crisis Assistance Ministry, Union County, Monroe, NC (crisisassistanceministry.org).
