George D. Spangler, III "Ted" (September 30, 1939 - October 19, 2019) went to be with his Lord
and Savior, Jesus, on Saturday October 19, 2019.
Ted was born in Charleston, West Virginia. He was the son of the late George D. Spangler, Jr.
and Hazel Fisher Spangler. He was a graduate of Charleston High School, and Virginia Tech,
where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering.
In his employment career he worked for Springs Mills and Rexham Corporation as an
information systems analyst and manager. In addition, he helped to start a news radio station,
was a licensed Professional Engineer and a licensed Real Estate Broker.
Ted enjoyed golf, bowling, sudoku, driving throughout the country and spending time with family
and friends.
The Lord saved Ted in his twenties and he walked with God faithfully. He read and studied
God's word every morning and evening. His life verses were Romans 8:28 and Matthew 6:33.
He was very active in his church life. Ted was a charter member of Christ Covenant Church in
Matthews, NC, where he served as a Ruling Elder, as well as a charter member of Sovereign
Grace Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC (where he was a member at the time of his death).
He served as treasurer of both of these churches, and the Central Carolina Presbytery.
Ted is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Letha H. Spangler, one brother, Bruce Spangler,
two sons, Stephen Spangler and Tony Spangler, one daughter, Kristi Cascio and husband, Jay,
six grandchildren: Sydney, Skyler, Thomas and Noah Spangler; Lilly and Sadie Cascio.
Brother-in-laws, Ned Harvey, Darrell Harvey, Mel Harvey and wife Mary Pat and many
nephews, nieces, and cousins.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation for the exceptional care provided by the
entire staff at Hospice of Union County, as well as the support of Golden Heart Senior Care and
the many joyful times spent at the Ivey of Charlotte.
