Gabriel "Gabe" Wilson Mullis, 79 of Monroe, North Carolina was promoted to his Heavenly home on Sunday March 29th, 2020. He was surrounded by his loving family as he was crowned victorious over a short yet brave battle with cancer and a long, courageous battle with Alzheimers.
He was born to the late Pratt W. and Ruby M. Mullis of New Salem on March 28th 1941. He was the oldest of their five sons. He was preceded in death by his brother Layne Mullis.
Everyone that knew Gabe, knew of his strong love and devotion for his family. He was always there to lend a helping hand. He was a mentor and a walking example of how to love unconditionally and to always be kind. Even in sickness he wanted to make sure everyone had a smile.
He was an amazing husband to the love of his life for 60 years. He was a kind, generous, loving Daddy and a caring, gentle, loving Paw Paw to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In his life he was blessed with many titles, being called Paw Paw was his proudest.
He enjoyed working and did so with a joyful heart. He was a humble, selfless provider for his family. He referred to himself as "just an old tile man" in truth he was a brilliant artist, his mediums being ceramic tile, marble and granite. His art will remain with us all for years to come. It is always on display in or on the buildings of the Charlotte skyline and beyond the Carolinas. In business he was thankful and proud he was able to work alongside his son Rick just as he had worked alongside his Dad.
In his free time he enjoyed strolling the streets of Monroe and Oakboro during car shows. This was an opportunity for him to visit with old friends and share stories of his youth with his son-in-law Charles, as they shared a love for cars. He also enjoyed piddling outside, planting a garden and playing a round of golf with his brothers, nephews and friends.
He will be deeply missed. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife and best friend Sarah "Jo" Mullis, son Rick Mullis (Karen), daughters Kim Deese and Laura Purser (Charles), grandchildren Corey Mullis (Christina), Spencer Mullis (Caralyn), Kristin Deese, Kaytlin Deese (Joe) and Maezie Purser, along with five great grandsons, Kasen, Kylen, Kamden, August, and CJ . Brothers Ray, Wayne (Anne), and Bill (Brenda), as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A private service will be held at Lakeland Memorial on Wednesday April 1st, 2020.
