Surrounded by family singing "Amazing Grace," Earl Reid Hartis of Marshville passed away peacefully on Sunday, Nov. 15 after a brief illness at the age of 77. Reid, as he was known to family and friends, loved gospel music. So too did he love spending time outside, whether fishing, hunting, planting wildflowers for his wife, or simply sitting on the front porch with his dog, Peanut. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Elmore Hartis and Macie Lee Hartis, and a great-grandson, Brent Merritt. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patricia Hartis; his brother, Larry James Hartis; his sisters, Agnus Williams, Barbara Cochrane, Linda Rape, Rachel Crump and Willie Ruth Price; his sons Jeffery Neal Hartis and Tony Reid Hartis, and Tony's wife, Suzanne Hartis. He will be missed by his grandchildren, Amy Sutton, Daniel Hartis, Jonathan Hartis and Katie Ulrich, as well as his six great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held at Turner Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, Nov. 18 from 10-10:45 a.m., with the funeral following at 11 a.m. Memorials can be made to Solid Rock Baptist Church in Monroe. Holland Funeral Service is honored to care for the Hartis family. Online condolences may be made at www.hollandfuneralservice.com
