Celebration of Life for Donald E. Burgess, Jr.

Please join us as we celebrate the life of Donald E. Burgess, Jr., who went to be with the Lord on June 14, 2026, at his home in Wingate, North Carolina.

Born in Pensacola, Florida, Don joined the United States Air Force in 1985 and retired as a Technical Sergeant in 2008 after 22.5 years of service. Among his fondest memories were reenlisting aboard the USS Enterprise, a fitting moment for a lifelong Star Trek fan, and working with JSOC and the SEAL Teams during his military career. After retiring from the Air Force, Don worked at Fox's Alley in Monroe, North Carolina.

Don was a good guy and often the coolest guy in the room, known for his big personality and flamboyant bowling shirts. He loved to bowl and participated in many leagues over the years.

Don was a Christian, a patriot, and a flat earther. He would talk to anyone about any of these topics and was always willing to listen to different opinions.

Don is survived by his loving wife, Fawn; his daughter, Lacy (Travis) Ferguson; his stepdaughter, Kendra (Michael) Cira; his grandchildren, Sophia Cira and Waylon Ferguson; his brother, Mike Burgess; his sister, Tami Harman; his nephews Oscar, Trevor, Dexter, Christian, and Alexander; and his faithful dog, Daphne.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Don's life on July 11, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. at Holland's Funeral Home in Monroe, North Carolina. We welcome all who knew and loved him to join us as we share stories, memories, and celebrate a life well lived.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Union County Animal Shelter or the ASPCA in memory of Don and his love of animals.
