"Chicken" Mary Frances Mangum McManus, 85, passed away September 12, 2020. Chicken was born on December 11, 1934 in Union County, NC to the late Frank and Ethel Mangum. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a great cook and loved her Navy Snuff. A visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at Sandy Ridge Baptist Church. A service to celebrate her life will follow in the church sanctuary. For those that will not be able to attend the visitation the family welcomes you to come by Holland Funeral Service Tuesday between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM to see Chicken and sign the register. She came by the name of Chicken because when you would see her she would be taking care of a bunch of children. When you would see her walking down the road it would look like a chicken and her biddies. Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Joey McManus (Christine), Sam McManus (Julie); daughter, Wanda Laney; grandchildren, Josey McManus, Dustin McManus, Jeremy Laney, Brandon Laney, Destiny Lawson-McManus, Rheanna Lawson-McManus; great-grandchildren, Palyn McManus, and Westin McManus; sister, Peggy Davis; and brother, Tommy Mangum. In addition to her parents she was preceded in passing by her husband, Joe McManus; granddaughter, Jessica McManus; son-in-law, Keith Laney; and siblings, Kathleen Walden, Josephine Burgess, John Mangum, Bessie Gay, Maude Robinson, Louise Akins, Bill Mangum, Betty Nixon, Franklin Ward, and Moses Mangum.
