Obituary

Born December 27th, 1957 in North Plainfield, New Jersey, Cheryl was the daughter to Peter Mastriana and Evelyn Mastriana and younger sister to John. This is where she grew up to learn the importance of family and love for food and her culture. Although she was equal parts Italian and Polish, Cheryl was known to proudly flaunt her Italian roots because that was the side she felt most connected to. "The Italian side is what counts most" she would say! Funny enough, she found herself marrying a Polish man...her husband Ken Rogoz. The two met doing what she loved most...dancing to disco music with her friends on a Friday night. They went on to have their daughter, Alyssa and son, Kenny in New Jersey, before making the big move to Weddington, North Carolina in 1995. Although the move away from family was not an easy one, Cheryl made sure to bring along her father and mother with her. This allowed her to continue the tradition of caring for her family members and keeping her parents close to her. From then on, she created her own close-knit friend group (most of them being Italian as well) who became her second family. This bond was strengthened year after year during Cheryl's famous Christmas Eve party; her most popular party, but only one of many. Cheryl was famous for her cooking...especially her famous Penne alla Vodka, entertaining, style and grace. She had a talent for creating delicious meals from scratch, decorating homes and always being on point with the current fashion trends. Her gift as a childcare provider, made a strong impression on dozens of families with her warm, nurturing and fun-loving personality. Nothing made her happier than being with family and friends. Her husband, who she would playfully joke about constantly calling her name out loud, was her rock. Her daughter, who she love shopping with, cooking for and talking to every single day without fail, was her best friend. Her son, who in her mind "could do no wrong," was her pride and joy...her Kennyboy. She was also lucky enough to meet her first grandchild, Isla who she was always so proud to flaunt pictures of, purchase all the most fashionable dresses and bows for and spoil unconditionally. Overall, her generosity, kindness and positivity was appreciated by everyone she met. She gave the best advice and loved talking to friends and family on the phone every day. Her voice and laughter could heal all and you always left a conversation with Cheryl feeling loved and fulfilled. If you were lucky enough to know Cheryl, you were granted with the most loyal, honest and caring friend in the world. She will be missed by so many and remembered by all.
