Carolyn Marie (Sigley) Rice, previously Carolyn Marie Panzer, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 4th, 2022, in her home in Waxhaw, North Carolina. She was 56 years old. Carolyn was born on October 25th, 1965, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and was raised along with her sister by her mother, Caroline Sigley.
After earning her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certificate from Allentown College (now DeSales University), Carolyn started her lifelong nursing career, serving a multitude of communities across the East Coast. Carolyn was a passionate pediatric nurse and was incredibly respected by her colleagues and patients. Carolyn found her passion in treating children with complex medical conditions, often saving their lives when stakes were high.
Carolyn met her husband, Daniel "Danny" Rice, while in high school. They were high school sweethearts and went their separate ways due to distance in 1984, a few months after Danny moved to Germany for work. Thirty years later, in 2014, Carolyn and Danny reconnected online. They fell in love again as if no time had passed and married on October 4th, 2018. They spent their days in various homes in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and North Carolina. Danny is known as her "Ricey" and will forever be her very best friend.
Carolyn found her greatest joy in spoiling her grandchildren whenever the opportunity arose. She was a talented martial artist in her 30s and proudly served in the Navy Reserve. She made some of her favorite memories at the beach with her family and had a special love for Carolina blue skies and Crepe Myrtle trees.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Danny Rice; sons Jim and Tony Schaffer; daughter Morgan Panzer; stepdaughters Melody (David) Doster and Chanel (Christopher) Brown; grandchildren A.J Schaffer and James Schaffer; step-grandchildren Caleb Doster and Emma Doster; sister Maryann (Rick) Harvey; and countless family friends. She will be greatly missed by her two canine companions, Cappy and Fletcher.
Carolyn is predeceased by her mother, Caroline Sigley.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 18th, 2022 at 11:00 am at Holland Funeral Service, 806 Circle Drive, Monroe, North Carolina.
