Calvin “Wayne” Mullis Sr., 82, of Wingate, NC, passed away surrounded by family at Hospice of Union County on February 25, 2026. Wayne was born October 30, 1943 at the family home in Unionville, NC to the late Pratt Wilson Mullis and Ruby Ellen Mullis.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00pm on Friday, February 27, 2026 at Holland Funeral Service – Marshville, 136 E. Main Street, Marshville, NC 28103.
Wayne was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was a graduate of Piedmont High School and after graduating, he joined the military. He was a proud veteran of the United States Airforce where he was awarded The Air Force Good Conduct Medal for his service. Wayne later when on to becoming a member of the local VFW group. He retired from Yale Norton, and after retirement he could often be found playing a game of golf. Wayne will be truly missed and cherished in the hearts of all those who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, Wayne is preceded in passing by his twin brother, Oscar Layne Mullis, brother, Gabriel Wilson Mullis, and sisters-in-law, Violet Mullis, and Rachel Tarlton Mullis.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Anne Lewis Combs Mullis, daughter, Ellen Mullis Leak (Samuel), son Calvin Wayne Mullis, Jr. (Amber), granddaughter, Ruby Elizabeth Mullis (fiance’ Nathan Widmaier), grandsons, Jackson Wayne Mullis and Kisaan Jahmeer Leak. As well as brothers, James Ray Mullis and Pratt William Mullis (Brenda), sister-in-law Sarah “Jo” Strawn Mullis, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Tommy and Joyce Combs Watson and Jim and Faye Combs Sutherland, and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Atrium Health Hospice Union, 700 W Roosevelt Blvd, Monroe, NC 28110
